Cannabis Growing Indoors in Soil

Soil growing may produce better results depending whether you are growing for flavour or flower or whatever. Plants are unlikely to dry out at the roots because of a power failure. You are the waterer! Nutrients can be added when watering and old compost re-used to improve the garden soil in your outdoor garden. Indoor gardeners would use a good quality compost.

The Hydroponic Garden

A hydroponic garden will flourish inside or outside, but since specific temperatures and lighting are necessary for one to reach maximum efficiency, the technique is more commonly used indoors. Hydroponics is an easy and high-yielding growing method, but requires the proper regulation. You will want a space (It usually doesn't take much) that will have a consistent temperature; in most cases mildly warm is ideal. Lighting is also very important, so you will want even, relatively bright lighting. The type and intensity of lights you need vary with plant type.

Indoor Growing Equipment, Techniques

NFT stands for Nutrient Film Technique which is a popular way of growing hydroponically. A thin film of nutrient passes over the roots of your plant and is constantly recirculated. This gives your plants exactly and very efficiently the nutrients they need. NFT can be a simple way of acheiving good indoor growing results. Constant supply of power is required as the plants cannot be left for long without moisture on the roots.

HPS stands for High Pressure Sodium. HPS lamps / bulbs can be burned in any position with no loss of light intensity or reduction in life span. Often seen as the lighting in large warehouses or your local major diy store for example. Suitable for adult plants, not for seedlings, young plants or cuttings.

Fluorescent lights are excellent light sources for baby seedlings and cuttings, or for herbs and houseplants with a low light-tolerance. Flourescent lighting best mirrors natural sunlight, and uses only 40 watts per tube. As plants begin to mature, fluorescent lights are rarely of a high enough intensity for plants to grow large and strong. This is when HPS bulbs are needed.

Remember; Plants need

  • plenty of light
  • food in the right quantitues
  • water in the right quantitues
  • steady appropriate temperatures
  • ventilation (being blown in a gentle breeze will naturally strengthen stems)
  • protection from pests and diseases.
