Nutrient Film Technique

NFT stands for Nutrient Film Technique which is a popular way of growing hydroponically. A thin film of nutrient passes over the roots of your plant and is constantly recirculated. This gives your plants exactly and very efficiently the nutrients they need. NFT can be a simple way of acheiving good indoor growing results. Constant supply of power is required as the plants cannot be left for long without moisture on the roots.

Fluorescent Lights for Seedlings

Fluorescent lights are excellent light sources for baby seedlings and cuttings, or for herbs and houseplants with a low light-tolerance. Flourescent lighting best mirrors natural sunlight, and uses only 40 watts per tube. As plants begin to mature, fluorescent lights are rarely of a high enough intensity for plants to grow large and strong. This is when HPS bulbs are needed.

Hydroponics

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in water to which special chemicals are added, rather than growing them in earth.

• Power hungry

• Need some growing medium to support the roots

Drip culture - is a hydroponic method of growing plants by allowing nutrient solutions to drip slowly onto an inert medium in which the plants are growing

Inert medium - such as rockwool permite, vermiculite, coir bricks.
